The Dolphin

Greta and Ami planned to kayak in Bluefish Bay, but Ami was sick. Although Greta’s parents usually didn’t let her go alone, Dad said it was safe today with a life jacket.

As Greta paddled, a sudden wind whipped up waves that nearly tipped her kayak. The water darkened, and rain poured down as she struggled against the rising wind, which pushed her toward a sharp rock.

Suddenly, she spotted a dolphin jumping out of the water. Greta had heard stories of dolphins saving people in storms but never believed them. Still, the sight of the dolphin made her feel safer.

The dolphin swam ahead of her and nudged the kayak away from danger just before she reached the rock. Greta sighed in relief but soon realized she was heading for a cliff.

Panicking, she followed the dolphin as it turned sharply, leading her to a small rocky beach. With one final push, she reached the shore, pulled her kayak out of the water, and plopped down onto the sand.

“Thank you!” Greta yelled, watching the dolphin jump and disappear. Now she knew the old stories were true.

What is the setting of this story?

A) A forest
B) A beach
C) A city
D) Bluefish Bay
